Howdy!
In today’s newsletter we’re announcing some exciting transformations happening at SOMO, sharing news about our next short video project, and celebrating that Katastrophe will be part of the Wild Rivers Film Festival in Prescott, AZ this Friday, the 30th.
SOMO is Absorbing SOD Studios
While in many ways the release of Katastrophe was a success—we got it online for people to actually watch, it was well received, and it even got picked up by a film festival—but we also learned a lot about what we could’ve done better, and how to improve moving forward.
The biggest shortcoming was, unfortunately, on the financial side. Simply put, we didn’t make any money. And for SOMO to be sustainable and remain a priority, we need to at least break even.
To help generate income, SOMO is now absorbing SOD Studios. This means that all of Dylan’s creative projects will now live under the SOMO umbrella. As a result, SOMO will now operate as a production company—partnering with brands, individuals, non-profits, and more to tell stories and capture visuals—while using that momentum to create our own flagship projects that align with our broader ethos.
That ethos remains the same: to bring wild stories about wild people to you. Our long-term goal is still to grow SOMO into something financially autonomous so we can focus exclusively on telling the stories we’re most passionate about.
We Added Another Dylan to the SOMO Team
We’re beyond excited to announce that Dylan Fay has officially joined our team! Dylan is a fantastic musician with impecable style. He’s the human version of a worn-in leather jacket—cool, timeless, and impossible to ignore.
Dylan will be a huge asset to everything we want SOMO to become. His main mission? Branding SOMO and bringing our apparel to life. We guarantee everything he creates will be west of ordinary.
Upcoming Short Video Collaboration with Callie Vinson
This short collaboration offers an intimate glimpse into the deep, transformative bond we share with our dogs—our steadfast companions on life’s journey. It follows Callie, who rises before dawn to go for a run alone, saying a quiet goodbye to her aging dog waiting at home, too old to run anymore. As she runs, Callie reflects on the memories and growth their connection has inspired. The story gently explores themes of letting go, resilience, and the enduring impact of companionship. Ultimately, it’s a feel-good, heartfelt celebration of how our pets help us become better versions of ourselves, even as life moves forward.
Callie’s story hits especially close to home for all of us at SOMO. Recently, Dylan Harris (and Emily) said goodbye to their dog, Sammy—a loyal companion who stood by Dylans side through his twenties, offering unwavering support during some of the most uncertain moments of his life. Sammy was there quietly witnessing Dylan find his direction and purpose, loving him unconditionally every step of the way. There’s a rare, steadfast kind of love we only experience with our pets—a love that holds us up when we’re lost and never asks for anything in return.
That relationship—the quiet loyalty, the unspoken bond, the way our pets carry us through life without ever asking to—is exactly what this film seeks to capture. It’s a reflection of our values at SOMO: telling wild, human stories rooted in emotion, transformation, and the everyday beauty we often overlook. Through Callie’s journey and her connection with her aging dog, we want to honor the way our animals shape us, even when their part in our story comes to an end. This collaboration is a tribute to that kind of love—and to the journeys that continue, even after goodbye.
